The Petrie Project Dettol Mission for Health
In an Australian first, Dettol's Petrie Project has helped improve the hygiene habits of an entire town.

During the height of common cold and flu season, Dettol activated a four-week hygiene education program in Petrie, QLD with the goal of improving the town's Everyday Health Index score and overall hygiene practices. So how did we get residents in this typical Australian town to improve their healthy habits?
Dettol worked to improve the Everyday Health Index rating by implementing it's Mission for Health initiatives over a four week period. This included a community nurse program for new mums, mothers' group meetings, the Dettol Healthy Habits Initiative in schools, after school activities with kids, gym visits and disinfecting germ 'hotspots' around the town such as playgrounds and public transport areas. Petrie residents were also treated to regular visits by the Dettol Hygiene Squad who made housecalls and provided personal hygiene tips and plenty of Dettol products.
As a result, Dettol increased Petrie's Dettol Everyday Health Index score by 5% in just four weeks during one of Queenland's worst recorded common cold and flu seasons in the last few years. Overall Petrie residents reported a 16% increase in washing their hands after using the bathroom, before preparing food, after coughing and sneezing, after playing with pets and upon arrival of getting home.
Dettol thanks the residents of Petrie for welcoming us into their town and providing such a positive example of healthy habits to other Australian communities.
