Dettol Everyday Health Index - What is it?
The Dettol Everyday Health Index is a simple measure of health based on a combination of germ awareness, hygiene habits and common ailments.
Dettol Everyday Health Index

The Dettol Everyday Health Index looks at the impact of factors like age, number of kids, employment and pets in relation to hygiene habits. Together with hygiene habits, germ awareness and flu admissions, these factors combine to allocate a score out of 1,000.
The Index found that Australia had an average score 642 out of a possible 1,000. Also, two thirds of people don't always wash their hands after sneezing - at an average of 3 sneezes a day, that's a staggering 26 million hands that go unsanitised!
Other interesting findings include:
- 45% of people pick another seat on public transport if they think somone is sick or coughing a lot
- 13% try to use public transport less in winter due to germ concern
- more than two thirds of Australians report keeping their distance from a sick colleague
- 1 in 5 would go as far as disinfecting their personal work surfaces.
By evaluating Australia's winter health, Dettol hopes to educate Australians on the importance of healthy hygiene habits.
